Tarot is a picture language. Remember when you took a language in school? You had your own concept of things based on your native language. Then, this new structure came in and gave you different words for the same ideas. Pretty soon, your concept of things grew to accommodate this different way of expressing things. In English, we call it an “umbrella.” In Spanish, the word might be “el paraguas,” literally translating to “that which is for water;”” la sombrilla” “that which is for shade”; “el parasol” (for sun); and finally, “el quitasol” (removes the sun). With just the single English word, “umbrella,” the Spanish language gives four words that literally translate to the function the device may provide.
Tarot does much the same thing. When I turn over a card, it begins to speak to me. One or many messages come forward. Through a combination of the general meaning of the card, my life experiences, and intuition, I interpret those messages as they apply to the question asked. Each person’s interpretation process is unique to them. The structure of Tarot takes what we already know and expands our consciousness to look at the world differently. Patterns emerge. Universal themes of human existence peek out through the illustrations. We begin to see that there is a certain order to things, and yet we must exercise free will to coax it out of theory and into action. We are empowered to navigate life in a more informed, effective way. We begin to see that it’s not just what happens in our lives, but how we respond to these events that determines our future. Tarot can be a useful tool in that process.
My goal and desire is to help my clients better understand and more effectively move through their lives, realizing the incredible beauty and power that resides within them.
